My top 10 restaurant guide to the historic capital city of Hungary.

10: La Fabbrica
At number 10 we have La Fabbrica. Located at the heart of Pest next to St Stephen’s Basilica is this authentic Italian restaurant. Delicious homecooked and affordable Italian cuisine with outdoor seating available with a gorgeous view of the Basilica. Don’t forget to look at their wine and signature cocktail menus.
9: Elysée Bistro
This charming restaurant has a romantic and classy atmosphere with its stunning decoration and great view of the parliament building. The menu offers many traditional Hungarian delicacies at a reasonable price.

8: Brunch Bistro
Opposite the stunning St Stephen’s Basilica is the perfect breakfast and brunch spot. If you’re missing the UK food the full English breakfast comes with Heinz baked beans and PG Tips teabags, but don’t worry, if you want to try new cuisine there are plenty of traditional European and Hungarian breakfast and lunch options. 7: ES Bisztro
Located at Deak Square is this Hungarian grill. The outdoor seating is ideal during warmer nights, and overhead heating makes the outdoor seating a great experience during winter too. The cheeseburger and hand cut chips is a definite must have!
6: Rajkot Palace
If you want something other than Hungarian food, this Indian restaurant is a must. Rajkot Palace is a hidden gem on the Pest side of the river. The authentic Indian cuisine, incredible décor and affordable prices makes this restaurant a great choice for your trip to Budapest.

5: Szimpla Kert
Budapest is home to the ruin bar, and this was Budapest’s first. This ruin bar has bars, food stalls, market stalls, bathtubs, cars, a greenhouse and much more all rolled into one outdoor alleyway. A ruin bar is a must see in Budapest and this one certainly lives up to its name. (Photograph right)
4: Anna Café
Anna Café is a casual dining atmosphere with a European menu. There are two Anna Cafes on the Pest side of the river on the famous shopping street. The perfect lunch stop after a morning of shopping. My personal recommendations are the traditional Hungarian chicken paprikash, dobos torte and the rose froccs (Wine Spritzer). (Photograph below)

3: New York Café
Easily up there with one of the best restaurants in Budapest in my opinion. The New York Café has been coined as ‘The Most Beautiful Café in The World’ and the décor did not disappoint. The dessert and cocktails certainly don’t disappoint either. With both traditional Hungarian food and more Western options available on the menu, this café is definitely one for the list. Make sure to book ahead, it is a very popular spot. (Photograph left)
2: Szazeves Etterem
As the oldest restaurant in Pest this cosy restaurant had to make the list. If you want traditional Hungarian goulash and a live band for an affordable price this restaurant is for you. The restaurant itself is quaint and cosy. The authentic Hungarian music make the atmosphere in this restaurant one to enjoy. Another popular restaurant so I recommend making reservations ahead of time.
1: Robinson Restaurant
At number one of my personal top 10 is the Robinson Restaurant with gorgeous lake side views of Vajdahunyad Castle. This steakhouse offers a wide menu of steaks and meats to pastas and salads. You will be in great hands with their professional wine connoisseurs to help pick the perfect wine to match your meal. This restaurant is slightly more expensive than some others on this list but is certainly great value for money.

A bonus food recommendation - Chimney Cakes! The crispy dough is usually covered in cinnamon sugar is filled with ice cream and toppings of your choice. These delicious Hungarian desserts are easily found on every street so treat yourself!
